Earmuff Maker (Decline Dual Weight Tricep Drop)
Reaction Sequence · Mechanism
Lie on a decline bench holding dumbbells above your face and then lower them toward your ears — what could possibly go wrong? Surprisingly, quite a lot if you do not pay attention, but when executed properly this is one of the most satisfying tricep builders you will ever experience.
Set up by hooking your legs on the decline bench and hoisting the dumbbells into position with palms facing each other and arms extended straight up. Your upper arms should stay bolted in place like they have been cemented to the ceiling for the entire set. The only thing that moves is your forearms, which drift backward in a smooth arc until your thumbs are parked right next to your ears — like you are putting on invisible earmuffs made of iron.
That stretch at the bottom is where the tricep long head gets an invitation to a party it did not know existed. Hold for a beat, then contract your triceps forcefully to drive the weights back to the starting position. Exhale on the way up like you are blowing out birthday candles, because every rep is a celebration of not dropping a dumbbell on your face.
The decline angle increases the range of motion compared to a flat bench extension, which means more stretch, more tension, and more growth stimulus for your arms. Keep your elbows pointed forward, resist the urge to let them flare outward like wings, and your triceps will respond with a pump so intense you will temporarily forget how sleeves work.
